Why Buy a Sports Attack Rugby Machine?
The Drop Attack rugby training machine is a pass and kick machine that will maximize your training time on the most difficult to practice phases of the game. True to its name, this unit will deliver a realistic drop kick, firing the ball 40-50 yards into the air. It will also replicate chandelles (or up and under) and torpedo kicks, hundreds of precise repetitions per practice.
With a simple and quick adjustment to the wheel position the Drop Attack instantly becomes a passing machine. Passes to feet as well as powerful torpedo and spin passes can be thrown with extreme consistency.
The coach can now work on different combinations that he wants to play with his forwards and defenders. For instance he can start the game with a drop kick and he can get the forwards to work together to win the ball. For lineouts he can work with different set plays and just focus on throwing the ball down the line. Using the machine to deliver all of the kicks and throws allows the coach to focus entirely on training each athlete.
With the NEW DC Model, quickly move to any location on the field with ease and power.
This unique training tool has solid-polyurethane throwing wheels that firmly grip the ball for a precise ball delivery. The wheel guards protect the wheels and help to keep the wheels as dry as possible in inclement weather.
Rapid-fire and multiple ball drills are part of the Drop Attack’s repertoire. Two independently running electric motors create not only a near instantaneous recovery time, but furnish enough power to put the rugby ball anywhere on the field. It can pivot instantly in any direction, accurately throwing passes or drop kicks to any location on the field.

Drop Attack FAQ
What is the weight of the Drop Attack broken down?
Without stand the Drop Attack weighs 80lbs (36.3 kg). With stand it weighs 105lbs (47.6 kg)
What is the size of the Drop Attack broken down?
Without stand the Drop Attack is 24” x (L), 20” (W) x, 24” (H). (61 cm x 50.8 cm x 61 cm)
With stand it is 36” (L) x 36” (W), 56” (H). (91.4 cm x 91.4 cm x 1.4m)
What type of assembly is necessary upon receipt of my new Drop Attack and are there any tools required?
Minimal assembly is required, as you will have to simply attach the stand to the machine. No tools are required.
How is the Drop Attack most commonly transported?
The Drop Attack is moved by tilting the unit down, removing the two front legs and using the rear leg to push and guide the machine on the rolling wheels.
How is the Drop Attack moved around the rugby field?
The Drop Attack is provided with two large, solid rolling wheels on which the machine is moved on and off the field. (Throwing wheels never touch the ground.)
Are there specifications for the balls that perform best with the Drop Attack?
Both leather and composite balls work with the Drop Attack. The machine will perform best with properly inflated balls as less air in the balls may cause inconsistencies.
Are there particular balls that will not perform well with the Drop Attack?
Undersized and under-inflated balls will not perform well.
Does it throw wet balls?
No, balls need to be dry when using the machine. Wet balls will slip; the wheels will not grip the ball properly.
What is the height of the ball release point of the machine?
The ball release point on the stand is 50″ (or 1.27 meters)
How accurate is this machine?
Extremely accurate! To insure you get the best accuracy, the balls used should be the same brand, age and equally inflated. This will provide the most consistent performance and accuracy.
What are the full load operating amps for the Drop Attack?
The full operating load is 1.5 continuous amps
What is an acceptable length for an extension cord and what type do I need?
Use a minimum of #14/3 grounded power cord up to 200 foot (61 meters) in length. A longer cord will require the opinion of a licensed electrician.
Why do you not offer a battery-powered machine?
Battery powered units have much longer recovery time and slowly diminish in power, which can result in inconsistent performance. The need to make sure the unit is always charged and ready to use is also an issue. Batteries are very expensive to replace, and are large and cumbersome to move around. As a result of these and many other concerns, we recommend generators; please see the next question.
Can the machine be operated with a generator?
Yes, however the generator must generate “clean electricity”. We recommend a minimum of 1000W, up to 2000W Honda generator with inverter technology. Weight of these generators is approximately 27 lbs. (12 kg), similar to the weight of a battery, but they are extremely portable.
What happens if the machine is used with a generator other than one that generates “clean electricity”?
Unless the generator provides “clean electricity”, the power surges from the generator will cause the Drop Attack to surge and become erratic, causing the machine to deliver inconsistent kicks or passes. See question above for recommended generator to be used with the Drop Attack.
What is the range of ball speeds the machine can deliver?
Speeds range from 20 MPH (32 KL) up to over 70 MPH (112 KL).
What makes the Drop Attack machine wheels higher in quality?
Sports Attack uses the same polyurethane material for the wheels on all of our machines as it provides exceptional wear. There are no air pressure considerations with our solid design. Sports Attack has never replaced a ball throwing wheel on any of our machines due to wear.
How is repair and service handled for the Drop Attack?
Components parts are designed to be easily replaced in the field, local assistance is not required. Parts list is available in the manual (available online on our rugby web page). Simply identify part needed, order part directly from Sports Attack and follow easy directions for repair. Only a few common tools are required to complete any repair.
What is the warranty on the Drop Attack?
We stand behind the material and workmanship of our machines as well as all wear components (i.e., throwing wheels, controllers, and motors) for a period of two (2) years from the date of original purchase based on the serial number and date codes on the unit.
How long has Sports Attack been in business producing sports training machines?
